Executives
The executives of Senate are elected by the student body each May.  They carry out the executive duties as outlined in the Constitution and Rules and Procedures, and are instrumental in shaping the Senate and the staff.

  • Academic Affairs
    This commission represents student opinions and interests on academic matters to the faculty and administration to advocate an educational environment that is focused on the students' interests and needs.  It also reviews academic policies and procedures to make sure that they serve the students, making recommendations for change when necessary.  Its members meet regularly with the academic Deans, and serve on a variety of University Committees relating to Academic issues.

  • Black Affairs
    This commission assists African American students who have grievances with the university as well as to serve as a liaison with offices, departments, committees, and organizations involved with these students. The commission will also gather and publicize information of importance to African American students, as well as trying to promote cultural awareness and increase multicultural programs available at Ohio University.

  • City & County Affairs
    This commission works as a liaison between the City of Athens and Athens County and Student Senate.  The commission voices the opinion of Senate to city and county officials to ensure that the rights of students are protected and interests advances.

  • International Affairs
    The commission assists international students who have grievances with the university as well as to serve as a liaison with offices, departments, committees, and organizations involved with theses students. The commission will also gather and publicize information of importance to international students, as well as trying to promote cultural awareness and increase multicultural programs available at Ohio University.

  • LGBT Affairs
    This commission creates awareness of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues on campus by gathering and publicizing information relevant to this community. The commission also organizes Pride Week, a week focusing on LGBT issues to bring awareness and appreciation to the community.

  • Minority Affairs
    This commission represents students that are traditionally undeserved by the university. Some of these populations include, but are not limited to, students of various ethnicity's and nationalities, non-traditional students, students with a learning disability, and students with physical disabilities. The commission will serve as a liaison for minority students' concerns with university offices, departments, committees, and organizations. It will also provide information of importance to these students regarding minority issues.

  • Off-Campus Life
    This commission deals with helping students with landlord-tenant problems as well as working with the Center for Student Advocacy to protect and improve the rights of students who live off campus.

  • Residence Life
    The Commission shall address the concerns and needs of students living in the residence halls, monitor policies and decisions that affect students living in residence halls, advocate policies that will improve the quality of life on each of the residential greens, and maintain relationships with student organizations and university offices that affect the life of students living in the residence halls.

  • Senate Staff
    Working for the executive officers, they carry out senate affairs and coordinate the efforts of senators ranging from issues of senate technology and university relations to the senate election in the spring.  Executive Staff members carry out senate daily operations, work with the university community members, and work to bring senate and other student organizations together.

    This commission works with student and community organization's voter registration and vote mobilization campaigns, works with various state and federal officials on legislation of interest to students, and informs students of relevant legislation pending or passes on the state and federal levels.

  • Student Activities Commission
    This commission evaluates organization program proposals and distributes funds to Ohio University student organizations from its general fund.

  • University Life
    This commission addresses issues that do not fall under the responsibilities of the other commissions including things that affect the campus as whole such as health services, environmental issues, alcohol-related issues, and Greek community issues.

  • Women's Affairs
    This commission works to educate both men and women in the community about the issues that are important to women including curriculum issues, university policies, and state and federal legislation. This commission also sponsors and plans Take Back the Night Week, a week filled with programs taking a stance against violence against women.
