May 30th, 2007 International Affairs Commissioner’s Report Adam Fardy Good evening, This week I have been in contact with Dean Descutner in regards to international student transportation, pre-college and University Classes for international students as well. As of this moment, everything is moving forward and he has meeting set up this week with Dr. Alan Boyd to discuss international student transportation for the fall quarter. Dean Descutner stated that he would have more for me towards the middle of the summer and the beginning of the fall quarter. I will not be able to attend the end of the year dinner as I will be at a wedding on Friday. I would just like to thank everyone for a great year and I would also like to say good luck to Morgan, Paul, and Molly as they graduate and move on. Have a great summer! -End of Report- |

5-22-07 International Affairs Commissioner Adam Fardy Good evening, The International Street Fair was a huge success this year as it was not just the largest street fair but the biggest turn out to date. I would just like to thank all those who helped at the Student Senate table; I received extreme enthusiasm from Dr. Alan Boyd and Krista McCallum Beatty who are both with ISFS for Student Senate’s participation in the street fair. Yesterday I attended the I.S.U end of the year dinner in which the executive team acknowledged all the different international groups for their accomplishments and participation throughout the year. It was also nice to formally say thank you and goodbye to Dr. Alan Boyd and I.S.U’s Grad Advisor, Amanda Yusko, for all their hard work and dedication as this is their last year with I.S.U. Also this week I’ve e-mailed Dean Descutner in regards to International student transportation for this coming fall quarter. I hope to hear back from him soon. Have a good rest of the week. -End of Report- |

5-9-07 International Affairs Commissioner’s Report Adam Fardy Good Evening, This week has been really slow for my commission. On Monday, I had my forum with many international students at the biweekly general body meeting of the International Student Union. I presented to them the www.getinformedou.com website and explained to them how the website broke down and the useful information that the website provided for them. I found the forum discussion quite interesting as it was met with feelings of angst and extreme concern towards the questions that Issue 1 presented. Many international students felt the questions should have been directed so that that the concerns of all constituencies on campus could be identified in regards to President McDavis. I explained to them that this was a general survey and that it would be used to help formulate positive discussions between all O.U students and President McDavis. I look forward to hearing the outcomes of how Issue 1 is voted upon by the general student body. That way it can provide useful discussion between the administration and the international community, as their concerns can be addressed within the coming academic year. Have a good rest of the week. -End of Report- |

5-2-07 International Affairs Commissioner’s Report Adam Fardy Good evening, This week I attended the executive committee meeting for I.S.U and we discussed still troublesome prices with Baker Catering. I contact Dr. Smith this week to discuss some ways we could possibly help I.S.U with refreshment prices for their upcoming Talent Show. Last week I met with Dean Descutner about the possibility of international student U.C. classes. Dean Descutner thought that it was a great idea and that he would have more for me by the end of the month. Dean Descutner and I also discussed strengthening pre-college, transportation for international students during Fall quarter, and undergraduate residence hall living requirements. One of the most promising aspects of the meeting is the developments in transportation of international students. We discussed the possibility of having vehicles and gas paid for, so that I.S.U would not have to shoulder the burden of getting international students to and from Columbus airport. This possibility would also help I.S.U greatly as every year they take money out of their general funding to pay for gas and the executive members provide their own vehicles to pick up international students from the airport. I will be checking in with Dean Descutner on these developments at the end of the month as well. Last week I mention OPIE student Misato Kawamura who was injured in a car accident at the end of March. She is doing great and should be out of the hospital at the beginning of next week. I.S.U will still continue to fundraise for Misato for the next couple of weeks. As soon as I find out those dates and times, I will let everyone know. Have a good rest of the week. -End of Report- |
