International Affairs Commissioner’s Report

Adam Fardy

Good evening,

I hope everyone’s Halloween weekend was a great one.  This week, I have been reviewing and preparing comments for numerous proposals for my first University International Council meeting on Friday.  These proposals include a few new study abroad programs both in Honduras and Poland.  The board will also be reviewing various international agreements between China, Malaysia, and Ohio University.  These various international agreements will provide an increase in the international undergraduate enrollment for the university.  I look forward to hearing these proposals and getting started with the council.

The Pumpkin Carving event that was presented by ACE last Wednesday was a great success.  A lot of individuals turned out and it was a great event to have before the Halloween festivities.  Just a reminder, that ASU will be having the “ASU Men’s Cookoff” on Saturday, November 4th at 7:30 p.m.  The event will be held in the Ping center.  Also, PERMIAS will be hosting “Movie Night” on November 3rd  from 4-9 p.m. and November 4th from 3-7 p.m.  The event will be held in Scripps 111.

Lastly, the Athens Friends of International Students (AFIS), hosts a weekly coffee hour in the Voigt Hall lobby from 11:30 to 12:30.  The coffee hour enables international students and community members to form positive friendships with one another, so please feel free to attend.

Good evening everyone,

This past weekend, I would just like to congratulate the International Student Union who won 1st place in the banner competition.  All the international groups did a fantastic job on their brick designs for the banner.

This week I have been working on the revised plan for the Baker Catering policy.  I’m planning on meeting with the faculty advisor for I.S.U this week to discuss the revised plan and collaborate with one another on further changes and to properly structure the plan for future presentation to Christine Sheets.  Also this week, I joined one of the standing committees, The University International Council, and I look forward to my first meeting with the council next Friday.

At Monday’s I.S.U General Body meeting, we discussed Winter Quarter Proposals and I will be working on a few of those proposals to discuss with the Executive Committee this coming Monday.  Also at the meeting, some of the international groups provided some upcoming international events, and they are as follows:

  • Thursday November 2nd, SEASA will be having Poetry Night from 7-9 p.m.
  • On Friday November 3rd and Saturday November 4th Permias  will be hosting Movie Nights.
  • Also on Saturday November 4th, ASU will be hosting the ASU Men’s Cookoff at the Ping Center, that will start at 7:30 p.m.

Have a good rest of the week.

International Affairs Commissioners Report

10/18/06

Adam Fardy

Good Evening Everyone,

Last Friday’s International Dinner was a huge success and I would just like to thank everyone who came out to support the international community.  I would also like to thank all the groups that participated in the event as well as all the individuals that volunteered to help clean up the event as well; they all did a wonderful job.

I met with my I.S.U. faculty advisor yesterday to discuss such issues as the Baker Catering policy as well as the Tuberculosis testing at Ohio University.  We had a long discussion on some new approaches to having the Baker Catering issue resolved, at least in the best possible way for the international community.  Krista as well as I discussed a new program that would possibly solve the troublesome situation for the international students.  We will be working closely with one another in the coming weeks to draft a proposal of some sort.

I will be discussing further advancement upon the Tuberculosis testing issue with the I.S.U executive committee tonight.  I will keep everyone posted on what they have to say on the issue.

I’ve also been working to find out International student retention rates here at Ohio University to help collaborate with Patrick Heery and other fellow commissioners in regards to the Diversity and Retention Forum.

Have a good rest of the week.

Good evening everyone

Hope everyone’s week is going well.  I hope everyone who wanted to attend the International Dinner purchased their tickets already, as today is the last day.  Again the dinner will be held on Friday October 13th at 6:30 p.m. and doors will open to the Baker Ballroom at 6:15 p.m.  I believe the event is going to be fantastic and a great social success.  This event will be a great way to say farewell to the ballroom, as well as kick off a great start to this year’s international festivities.  I look forward to hopefully seeing some of you there.

This week has been a productive one.  I met with the rest of the I.S.U. executive committee on Monday at the general body meeting to discuss final preparations for the International Dinner.  We also met to discuss about this Saturday’s volleyball match between the I.S.U. executive committee and the rest of the I.S.U. general body.  Please feel free to come out to see the match, as this will be a great way to meet some of Ohio University’s international community.  The match will begin at 9 p.m. at the Convocation Center.

For the rest of this week I plan on meeting with the I.S.U executive committee to help them prepare for the dinner as well as help set up the Baker Ballroom on Friday morning.

Have a good rest of the week.

Good evening everyone,

This week has been a productive one.  I’m in the process of getting in touch with Elaine Kaylor in regards to recruiting a new intern for this year.  Allen Dennis approached me very much interested in the International Student Union and possibly getting involved with Student Senate.  I’ll be working with Elaine in regards to that.

I’ve also been doing what I can to help out with the International Student Dinner as well as with International Student Union’s involvement with the Homecoming Parade.  I’ve been working with I.S.U.’s Graduate Student Advisor Amanda Yusko on the I.S.U. banner for the Homecoming parade this week and I’m very excited to see how it will turn out.

The International Dinner again is on October 13th, at 6:15 p.m.   Tickets go on sale October 9th at the ISFS office and also on Tuesday and Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at college gate for $5.00.  Get your tickets early, tickets always go fast.
