From Commissioner Wemer: My week was marked with various meeting and preparing for the first meeting of this year’s commission. I met with Mickey Hart at the LGBT Programs Center. I am pleased to announce that The Advocate rated Ohio University as one of the 100 most accepting college campuses of LGBT students in the nation. We hope that the positive press generated from this distinction will help boost the image of the LGBT community here at Ohio and will help us attract prospective students for fall 2007. I also met with Terry Koons, the faculty director of POWER, to plan LGBT Wellness Week. The week, sponsored by the commission, will see members of POWER visit various LGBT groups on campus. We hope the discussions and demonstrations led by POWER will help educate LGBT students on safe practices for the coming year. The week is scheduled for Sept. 25-29. Finally, I have set the weekly meeting for the LGBT Commission of Student Senate for Sundays at 5pm in the LGBT Programs Center, on the third floor of Baker down the hall from the Senate office. This week we will be discussing the year-plan for the commission and finalizing plans for the LGBT Wellness Week. All are invited and encouraged to attend. |
