Women’s Affairs Commissioner’s Report: September 27, 2006
As stated last week, I have been in contact with the group on campus who is working to raise the minimum wage. We are planning to co-sponsor a rally with them in mid-October.
Monday, Commissioner Heery and I met with Wendy Merb-Brown, director of the Learning Communities, to discuss the possibility of a learning community geared toward high-performing women on campus. She offered some advice, various options, and presented the pro’s and cons of such an endeavor. Commissioner Heery and I are going to continue to research the retention rate of women within specific colleges and possibly arrange some other meetings to feel out what the best approach would be to this problem. Today I met with Judith Grant and Dr. Charlene Smith concerning the opening of the new women’s center. We discussed the opening ceremony and the final stages of the center. Our commission will be spearheading the last portion of the ceremony, which will be an open house and reception at the center.
Last night I took part in and announced that Senate endorsed the Sexual Assault Awareness March and name burning.
