This week several groups are on board to help with the planning of the Women's Center Opening; and I am scheduling a meeting with Judith Grant to finalize these plans as well as become informed about the final plans for the Women’s Center’s programming, status of the selection of the director, etc. I will be working closely with Brittany Buxton, GSS Women’s Affairs Commissioner on this project.
Commissioners Roder, Diehl, and I, met today to discuss a possible Standing Committee on Campus Safety. We met on Monday with Dr. Phyllis Bernt who was supportive of this matter and will assist us with proceeding further.
Gina Memone, president and CEO of Riot Girl, inc., which is a nonprofit that assists in Take Back the Nights throughout the nation, has volunteered to assist in some of our Take Back the Night Plans. We look forward to her coming on board.
My commission is working to clear up misconceptions and raise awareness about the process of receiving birth control on campus. We also hope to work with part of the newly funded sexual assault awareness campaign for freshmen to get some information distributed. I’ve contacted the individuals Elaine worked with last year to get breast examination shower hangers approved, and we are working to have more of those distributed.
Along with several other commissioners, we will be active in the planning and participating in the retention forum that Commissioner Heery suggested.
This week, I also met this week with Commissioners Wemer and Walker to discuss a future resolution and other affairs within our commissions.
End of Report!
