First of all, this week Commissioner Roder and I have been working on the Year of the Woman Resolution that will be discussed later this evening.
Additionally, Commissioners, Roder Diehl and myself met this past week to finalize the scope of the Standing Committee on Safety; Dr. Bernt was to send her opinions and review this with the Committee on Committees and will be getting back to us.
On Saturday my commission marched in the Homecoming Parade as part of the Herstory Committee. This was a wonderful day for us, in which we enjoyed uniting women’s groups from the community and the campus. We had the opportunity to network with several groups within the community who are interested in working together this year.
On Monday I attended the Women Acting for a Change Weekly meeting; we will be working closely this year, which I’m very excited about. We exchanged ideas about programming for winter and spring quarters.
My commission has been going to meetings throughout the week to contact groups to participate both in the Retention and Diversity Forum and the Women’s Center Opening.
I had a meeting this past week with Gina Mamome for Take Back the Night planning, and she offered invaluable advice for the planning of the week. I’ve also spoken to several potential speakers throughout this week and am brainstorming programming ideas with some groups and individuals on our steering committee. I also have a meeting after Halloween with Chief Rick Mayor about the week.
I’ve heard back from Lindsay Orchowski, who is planning and implementing the large scale sexual assault and violence prevention campaign on campus. She and I are going to meet for coffee next week to discuss our involvement in this program.
Finally, I got in contact with Steve Mack who is in favor of completing and implementing the shower hangers that Elaine got approved last year, and I will be working with him to accomplish this.
End of Report!
