Women’s Affairs Commissioner’s Report: 01/10/07
Hello everyone, I hope you had a fabulous break and are looking forward to an exciting and productive quarter.
The women’s affairs commission has been busy over break planning the grand opening of the women’s center, which is set to take place February 10. I had the opportunity to meet with the newly appointed interim director of the center, Beatrice Selotlegeng, today to discuss this and some of her other plans for the center. We are also looking forward to having a student voice in the selection of the director, who will be appointed after this year. We are working with Feminist Action Together on a panel on activism that will be held at 3:00 after the opening on the 10. We would love you to attend if you are interested, let me know.
Planning is continuing for Take Back the Night, including the securing of funds, finalizing speaker plans and overall themes, as well as incorporating the Year of the Woman initiative into this event.
This Thursday we will be hosting Students Talking to Students, the forum on retention and diversity, and look forward to engaging with various women’s groups on campus about this topic.
As I stated earlier, Commissioners Roder, Diehl, and myself are planning a lighting walk for Sunday, January 21, sometime between 6-8 p.m. food will be provided and we need all of you to come. Look for final information on this next week.
Our commission has also been working diligently on tonight’s resolution on Shared Governance, which you will hear about in a few minutes.
The women’s affairs commission is looking forward to a great quarter and collaborating with many community and campus groups on events such as the Herstory celebration, The Vagina Monologues, Year of the Woman, Sexual Health, and much more.
End of report!
