Women’s Affairs Commissioner Report – January 17, 2007

Hey everyone, I hope your short week is going well!  It was another busy one for the Women’s Affairs Commission, and we’ve been working diligently to get the on-campus lighting walk together for this Sunday, January 21, 2007.  For those of you participating, the walk will begin promptly at 8:00, but if you would like to join us before at the Senate Office around 7:45 we’ll have some cookies and hot chocolate ready for you.

I am passing out papers indicating the area in which you will be walking.  I organized you into groups of 2-3 people to walk each area, simply based on where you indicated you would like to go.  If any of the pairings are a problem, you are welcome to switch with each other. I’ve attached directions in regard to what to bring and to look for at during the walk, so make sure to check those out.  Thank you so much for being a part of this!

The commission is continuing to work with the new women’s center in order to make their opening day a success.

Take Back the Night Steering Committee is set to meet sometime next week; we are excited to finalize and brainstorm about final programming, themes, etc.  Let me know if you would like to join us and I will e-mail you the final time!

In other news, Kristen Delo of GSS is working with our commission and Hudson to organize an HPV awareness campaign.  Some other women’s health issues we are currently addressing include the rise in birth control prices at Hudson, Sexual Health Seminars, as well as the implementation of feminine products in more public restrooms. We are also planning a Pink/Green event with WSFUN for the new women’s center in order to raise money for Obstetric Fistula.

End of report!
