Commissioner’s Report: February 14, 2007

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

The Vagina Monologues is tonight, tomorrow night, and Friday.  Tonight's and Friday's performances will be held in Bakter Theater and Thursday's will be in Baker Ballroom.  The doors open at 7:15 and the show is at 8:00.  Senator Schuette has been working diligently on this for months and we are all very excited for this event.  Our commission has been preparing this week for a Take Back the Night display that will be at the event all three nights.

This past week Commissioner Wemer and myself met with Dr. Judith Grant of the Women’s Studies Department to discuss the Gender/Sexuality RLC, a Queer Studies Certificate and POSSIBLY the formation of a Women's House on campus.  I won’t steal Commissioner Wemer’s thunder on this one, but it was a productive and exciting meeting.

College Democrats attended our commission meeting last week, and we got some great ideas laid down for our upcoming HPV Awareness Campaign Spring Quarter.

The Sexual Health Seminar Committee met this past week and established some great goals.

The Sexual Assault Awareness Task Force will be convened next Thursday. This group, coordinated by Amanda Childress, will be working toward combating sexual assault on campus and developing some new strategies about how to handle this issue.

As always, TBTN planning is in full swing.

And finally, thank you to everyone who attended the Opening of the Women’s Center on Friday.  It was a wonderful day and our commission looks forward to continuing to assist in its success!

Have a great week!!
