International Affairs Commissioner’s Report

Adam Fardy

Good evening,

This week I attended the I.S.U executive board meeting and we discussed I.S.U’s constitution with its groups, in regards to direct correlation between attendance and funding.  I.S.U’s executive committee worked together in making some changes to the constitution, which would make it a little more difficult for a group who has poor attendance in the I.S.U general body meetings, to receive full funding for their events the following quarter.  I.S.U will be meeting with its groups next Monday to discuss attendance issues and they will also be asking for the groups opinions in regards to these possible changes. I’ve been working with Dr. Smith this week in editing and proposing suggestions to the drafts of the affiliation letter and code of conduct for the W.R.C.  As soon as we have a finalization, I will have a resolution to accompany it. Also this week, I was notified by I.S.U of an OPIE student who was injured on March 30th.  Misata Kawamura was injured when she was hit by a recycling truck at the intersection of University Terrace and Park Place.  She is part of a group of students from Chubu University in Japan who are here to study English in the OPIE program.  At this time, she is still receiving medical treatment, but I am told by Dean Hogan that she is to return to campus soon.  I.S.U will be doing several types of fundraising in order to help Misata and her family during this time, to help cover financial and medical costs.  I.S.U will be having fundraising tables set up during the last week of April and the first two weeks of May.  During those weeks, the tables will be set up from 11-1 and 5-7 on the bottom floor of Baker. Have a good rest of the week. -End of Report-
